Elizabeth jones

Elizabeth Miya Jones is a cellist from Greenwich, Connecticut. She is a second-year Harvard/New England Conservatory Dual-Degree candidate. At Harvard, she’s pursuing a bachelor’s degree in History of Art and Architecture with a secondary concentration in Mind Brain Behavior. At NEC, she’s pursuing a Master of Music in Cello Performance, studying with Paul Katz. Elizabeth is a graduate of Greens Farms Academy and The Juilliard School Pre-College, where she was a student of Amy Barston.

 

Elizabeth started piano lessons at five and cello at seven. Her first teachers were Drora Arnon, Svetlana Gorokhovich, and David Krieger. Elizabeth received Grand Prix at the Concert Festival International Competition and First Prizes at the American Fine Arts Festival and Golden Key Music Festival. She has served as principal cellist of the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra and Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra, and has performed at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Lincoln Center’s Bruno Walter Auditorium, Juilliard’s Paul Hall, Harvard’s Sanders Theatre, Harvard’s Paine Concert Hall, the Cape Cod Museum of Art, and Symphony Space. She has participated in the international festivals of Bowdoin, Philadelphia, and Burgos, as well as Juventus Pro Musica, Sitka International Cello Seminar, and the Valissima Institute. As a soloist with orchestra, Elizabeth has performed with the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra (led by music-director, Stuart Malina), Concert Festival Orchestra, and Burgos Festival Chamber Orchestra.

 

In 2023, Elizabeth wrote, directed, and performed a one-woman play, Forever Smiling, dedicated to the legacy of cellist Jacqueline du Pré, which depicted her struggle with multiple sclerosis. The play included a live performance of selections from the Elgar Cello Concerto. Elizabeth is delighted to have the opportunity to perform this piece with Maestro Christopher Hisey and the American Chamber Orchestra.
